18 Hour Fasting
18:6 intermittent fasting is a smart way to burn body fat, keep insulin (the storage hormone) levels low, and improve your health. Plus, what makes 18:6 intermittent fasting work even better is when you couple it with a low-carb whole food natural diet.
Intermittent fasting is an eating pattern that cycles between periods of fasting and eating. So 18:6 fasting consists of fasting for 18 hours and eating for 6 hours, and you can do this intermittently a few times per week. That is why it’s called “intermittent” fasting.
When you fast, you not only reduce calories, but you also keep insulin levels low. When insulin levels are high after meals, you are in a storage mode, and it’s much harder for the body to burn body fat. Fasting hormonally helps you lose weight. Now add a low-carb diet to the fast, and you can keep insulin even more under control.
I made an infographic explaining how to follow an 18:6 fasting program while eating a low-carb whole food natural diet below.
